A team of 200 Sumner High School leadership students are in the midst of preparing for Sumner’s Community Dinner, an annual service-based event held at the high school.
In its 11th year, the meal is free and open to anyone in the community. Last year, Sumner leadership students fed nearly 900 people at the event.
There will be more than 600 toys given to children, canned food for families in need to take home, gingerbread houses, and the Sumner High jazz band performing through out the meal, event organizer Elly Ward said.
“The biggest thing is that it connects the community,” Ward said. “It brings the holiday spirit and brings the community together.”
The Sumner Community dinner runs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 12) in the Sumner High School gym, 1707 Main Street.
