Man shot by Auburn officer responding to malicious mischief call
Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Friday night in Auburn, in which an officer shot a man while responding to a malicious mischief call.
Auburn Police Cmdr. Steve Stocker said the man who died was in his 60s, had some sort of weapon, and posed a threat to the officer.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office hasn’t released the name of the man who died, and police haven’t yet identified the officer who shot him, who is on paid administrative leave, per procedure.
A team of detectives from other King County law enforcement agencies is investigating, which Stocker said is Auburn’s protocol for officer-involved shootings.
The officer responded to the malicious mischief call about 8:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Pike Street Northeast and was the only officer there at the time of the shooting, Stocker said.
Further details of what happened haven’t been released and likely won’t be until Monday or Tuesday, he added.
