The man who was shot overnight by police in Fife after a high-speed motorcycle chase fatally shot himself in the head first, according to Fife police.
The man died in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in the 3400 block of Pacific Highway East about 12:45 a.m. Friday, police said.
Des Moines police had been chasing the man, who was riding a stolen motorcycle, after a domestic incident.
A Des Moines officer fired a shot that hit the man in the chest, but Pierce County medical examiners said he’d already sustained a self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound to the head. The gun was found near the man’s body.

“The gunshot wound to the head produced instantaneous brain death, rendering the gunshot wound to the chest non-contributory,” Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Clark said in a Fife police news release.
The Des Moines officer, a 21-year-veteran, has been placed on administrative leave in the wake of the shooting.
