He was shot with his own gun, then accused of shooting up a Lakewood home

More than 20 shots were fired into a Lakewood apartment Thursday in retaliation for an earlier shooting.

Seven people were inside the apartment. No one was hurt.

Police said they found 22 shell casings in the 14400 block of Washington Avenue Southwest after neighbors called them at 1:50 a.m.

On Friday, a 23-year-old University Place man pleaded not guilty to seven counts of first-degree assault, attempted first-degree burglary and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

He was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Charging papers give this account:

Two men got into an argument at a Parkland home after one of them slapped a woman. The University Place man “took it upon himself to correct (one of the men) for slapping a woman,” records state.

During the fight, another man took a handgun carried by the University Place man and shot him in the shoulder.

Someone at the home called 911 about 12:50 a.m. but someone else called back and asked sheriff's deputies not to come.

An hour after the shooting, someone shot up a Lakewood apartment. Witnesses told police they suspected it was the University Place man because he was upset at people who were protecting the man who shot him.

The man sought medical treatment at an area hospital and was interviewed by police.

Although he initially denied knowing anybody involved in either shooting, he allegedly told officers it was a “possibility” he was shot with his own gun.
