Drunken driver hits two kids with vehicle, Tacoma police say
A 27-year-old man was arrested after drunkenly hitting two children with his vehicle while driving Saturday night in South Tacoma, according to police.
The children, 8 and 6, were hit about 10:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Junett Street, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said Sunday morning.
The boys had run out of a house and into the street when the Tacoma man hit them at a slow speed, Cool said.
“The driver was not speeding,” Cool said. “He didn’t see the kids.”
The 8-year-old boy was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord for a cut on his head and was held overnight for observation, Cool said. The 6-year-old had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The Tacoma man was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault.
