Pierce deputies fatally shoot man after he allegedly caused a shooting, rollover crash

A man who fled an Eatonville shooting and caused a rollover collision was fatally shot early Friday by Pierce County sheriff’s deputies.

A section of state Route 7, or Mountain Highway East, near 384th Street East was closed in both directions through late morning.

The incident started about 12:30 a.m. when deputies were called to the 5200 block of 390th Street East.

A resident allegedly fired warning shots into the ground after returning home and finding a man in a “suspicious vehicle” in their driveway, Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

While fleeing the scene in a pickup, the suspect struck a vehicle in the 38300 block of Mountain Highway East and rolled over.

Deputies arrived on scene and tried to contact the suspect, who they said was uncooperative.

Within moments, deputies called out that shots had been fired and requested medical aid.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three deputies who fired their weapons were placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.

People in the other car suffered minor injuries from the crash.

Tacoma police are investigating the shooting.
