Convenience store clerk shot during armed robbery in Tacoma

A convenience store clerk was shot and injured early Wednesday during an armed robbery in Tacoma.

The holdup took place about 4:20 a.m. in the 7400 block of South Tacoma Way.

The robber walked in, demanded money and shot the 30-year-old clerk in the leg because he was moving too slowly, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

The clerk was taken to Tacoma General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The robber, described as a black man about 6-feet-1 and 170 pounds, fled on foot and has not been arrested. He was last seen heading east on South 74th Street.
