Woman walking on Kent highway struck, killed by truck

A pedestrian was hit and killed while walking on state Route 516 in Kent early Thursday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The woman has not been identified.

Troopers were called about 3:30 a.m. to the eastbound lanes of Route 516 near Military Road and found a woman lying in the roadway.

The driver said he was on his way to work when he struck the pedestrian, who was allegedly walking in the right lane.

Trooper Rick Johnson said the driver showed no signs of impairment and is cooperating with the investigation. The driver was not taken into custody.

It was not immediately known why the woman was walking on Route 516.

Eastbound lanes closed temporarily for the investigation and reopened around 6:30 a.m.
