Elderly couple robbed at gunpoint while walking in Point Defiance Park

Tacoma police are looking for an armed man who robbed an elderly couple as they walked on a trail at Point Defiance Park.

The holdup occurred about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday about a half mile into the trail from the Rhododendron Garden.

As the victims were walking, a man holding a handgun approached them.

“He robbed this couple of their credit cards and phone and ran off,” police spokeswoman Wendy Haddow said.

The victims were not injured.

A passerby on the trail called 911 after discovering what happened.

The robber was described as black or Latino, in his 20s, about 5-feet-7 and thin. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

There have been no other recent reported robberies in the park.
