Troopers fatally shoot driver who opened fire on them after pursuit near Gig Harbor
Troopers shot and killed a man late Thursday after he opened fire on them following a pursuit near Gig Harbor, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident started about 8:45 p.m. when Washington State Patrol troopers began chasing a Ford F150 on Purdy Drive NW.
During the pursuit, the driver rolled his truck into a wooded area in the 15400 block of state Route 302.
He then allegedly fired a shot at troopers, who fired back.
Law enforcement officers approached the truck and found the driver unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect has not yet been identified.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the pursuit or how many troopers were involved.
The investigation, led by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, is ongoing.
