Police release photo of suspect wanted in fatal Tacoma shooting

Tacoma Police Department

Tacoma police on Tuesday released photos of a man wanted for fatally shooting someone outside a fast food restaurant.

Detectives have not yet identified the shooter, who is described as a black man between the ages of 25 and 35. He’s 5-feet-10 and wore braids up, with the sides and back of his head shaved.

He was last seen near South 52nd Street and South Asotin wearing a black puffy jacket, a black hooded shirt, light-colored jeans, a white cap and black and white shoes.

Killed in the shooting was Steven Haggard, 48.

Police said the two men got into some kind of a dispute that escalated with the shooting.

It occurred about 11:45 a.m. outside the restaurant in the 5200 block of Tacoma Mall Boulevard.

Haggard was taken to an area hospital, where he died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The gunman’s vehicle has been recovered but no arrest has been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tacoma-Pierce County Crimestoppers at 800-222-8477. Callers may remain anonymous.
