1 killed in Tacoma apartment fire

One person was found dead early Monday after a fire was put out in a Tacoma apartment, according to the Fire Department.

The victim’s name, age and gender have not yet been released.

Crews were called about 2:30 a.m. to a building in the 6300 block of North 26th Street and found a second-floor unit engulfed in smoke and flames.

The body of a resident was found inside.

That area of N. 26th Street was closed until 7 a.m. for the investigation.

Investigators have not yet determined what started the fire.

No other injuries were reported, but about a dozen people were displaced.
