A man was fatally shot in Tacoma on Wednesday afternoon. Police are investigating

A man was mortally wounded in a shooting Wednesday in an alley between South 15th and 16th streets in Tacoma, according to police.

A police officer was parked nearby when someone knocked on his window, telling him there was a fight in the alley, called Court G, around 3:30 p.m.

The officer drove to the scene and found the 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The officer called for medical aid and applied a tourniquet to the man’s leg, said Tacoma police spokeswoman Wendy Haddow.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, according to fire spokesman Joe Meinecke. The victim later died there.

A suspect was not in custody Wednesday, but the public should not be alarmed, Haddow said.

“It appears to be an argument that escalated and at this time we have no reason to believe the general public is in danger,” she said.

Police were investigating.
