He tried to stab a man who asked him to stop yelling in a Tacoma alley, records say

A Tacoma man is accused of trying to stab another man who asked him to stop yelling outside an apartment complex.

On Saturday, a man who lives in the 2500 block of South Tacoma Avenue tired of hearing nonstop noise from the alley.

“The victim stated that a male had been yelling in the alley ‘pretty much all night’ so he eventually decided to go outside to see if he could get the male to stop yelling so he could sleep,” according to court documents.

The suspect was so angered by the request that he allegedly pulled out a switch blade and told the resident he was going to kill him.

“The victim stated that the defendant lashed out at him with the open blade, narrowly missing him as he was swinging the blade,” prosecutors wrote in charging papers.

The victim banged on a nearby door for help, drawing the attention of another resident who told police he heard death threats and saw the suspect advancing toward the victim with a knife.

The suspect allegedly continued yelling death threats and repeatedly stabbing a mattress while the victim sought help.

When a resident told the armed man to calm down, he yelled that the victim came onto his property and he was going to kill him, records say.

The men went inside an apartment and called 911.

When officers arrived, they spotted the man with a knife and took him into custody after a short foot chase.

Pierce County prosecutors on Monday charged the 30-year-old with first-degree assault.

He is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon.
