Southbound I-5 shut down after domestic violence suspect barricaded himself in car

All southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Kent were shut down early Tuesday after a domestic violence suspect barricaded himself inside his vehicle.

A standoff occurred about 2:30 a.m. with a man wanted on a felony warrant.

Traffic was diverted onto state Route 516 during the incident, which brought crisis negotiators and a SWAT team to the scene.

The suspect surrendered around 4:15 a.m. without incident, bringing “a peaceful and safe resolution,” Trooper Rick Johnson said.

I-5 reopened moments later.
