Woman killed in crash with Pierce County deputy responding to Parkland shooting

A 31-year-old woman died Friday after colliding with a Pierce County sheriff’s deputy in Parkland.

The crash occurred just before 1 p.m. on 112th Street near B Street.

A deputy was traveling west with his lights and sirens on when a westbound Honda made a left turn directly in front of the patrol car, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The woman, who was driving the Honda, was killed in the collision.

Her two female passengers were taken to an area hospital. Both are expected to survive. One has serious injuries, the other has minor injuries.

The deputy is shaken up but not injured, Troyer said.

He was responding to a shots fired call at the time of the incident.

“Our deputy is distraught and our whole department feels bad about this,” Troyer said.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash.

112th Street between A Street and Pacific Avenue is temporarily closed.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
