Do you recognize the man in SpongeBob pajamas who assaulted a Pierce County clerk?

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies are hoping you recognize a man in SpongeBob pajama pants who assaulted a convenience store clerk.

The attack occurred about 5:30 p.m. Saturday at a Union 76 gas station on Steele Street South near state Route 512.

Witnesses saw the man banging on a car parked near the gas pumps, reportedly trying to get a woman to get out of the vehicle.

When a clerk stepped outside to intervene, the man hit the clerk in the face and fled.

By the time deputies arrived, the man and the car with the woman inside were gone.

Investigators believe the man in SpongeBob pajamas was associated with a black Mercedes.

Anyone with information on the man’s identity is asked to call Tacoma-Pierce County Crimestoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
