3rd suspect arrested in fatal Tacoma shooting

A woman wanted in connection with the fatal drive-by shooting of a man in Tacoma was arrested Thursday.

Aida Leiato, 19, was taken into custody three days after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

She is the last to be caught of three suspects charged in the March 18 death of Raymond Serrano.

Leiato; Marcus Moore, 20; and Dustin Smith, 18, are all charged with second-degree murder and drive-by shooting.

Moore and Smith pleaded not guilty to the charges Monday and are being jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.

Leiato was to be arraigned Friday.

Police and charging papers give this account of the homicide:

Serrano, 36, was walking with a friend when a vehicle with the three suspects drove by East 26th and East D streets and yelled at the men to get out of the street.

Serrano’s friend yelled back, “Nothing but love, brother.”

The driver, believed to be Leiato, made a U-turn to pass the victims again and somebody shot out of the sedan’s passenger window.

Serrano was shot in his torso and pronounced dead at the scene.

His friend was not injured.

Pierce County prosecutors called the shooting a “completely random and unprovoked” attack.

Detectives were able to link the sedan to Moore and discovered he and Smith were arrested in Olympia two days after Serrano’s death.

During that incident, Olympia police seized two pistols from the men.

One of the guns matched a bullet fragment found at the scene where Serrano was shot, records say.

Smith told police he and his friends regularly hung out in that area of Tacoma to drink and smoke marijuana.

Both Moore and Smith are charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm in Thurston County for allegedly shooting and trying to rob a man they planned to sell a gun to.
