1 injured in gang shootout in Parkland. Neither suspect in custody

A man was injured during a gang shootout in Parkland Thursday, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

The melee broke out about 4 p.m. at 112th Street and Pacific Avenue.

Investigators said at least two gang members were involved in the shooting, which ended after one of the suspects was shot multiple times.

The uninjured gunman ran several blocks before pointing a gun at Central Pierce firefighters who were leaving their station to respond to the shootout, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

A K9 was able to track the suspect for a while, but detectives believe he left the area in a stolen vehicle.

The Parkland neighborhood was placed on lockdown while deputies searched for the gunman.

The injured suspect was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.

“A group of people showed up, there was a commotion in the Emergency Room and he took off,” Troyer said.

It’s unknown what prompted the shootout, but investigators said the involved parties are believed to be gang members from a different county.

The Sheriff’s Department is working with the gang unit and FBI on the case.

“We’re very lucky nobody else got injured or killed,” Troyer said.
