Driver, 19, killed after car strikes light, power poles in Pierce County

A 19-year-old man died early Friday after he lost control of his vehicle in Pierce County and struck a light pole and power pole, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were called about 1:20 a.m. to the wreckage in the 14800 block of Canyon Road East.

A female passenger was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The driver, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle took out a light pole and struck a power pole before landing in a row of bushes, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The crash caused a power outage in the area.

Investigators are looking into what caused the man to lose control of the vehicle.
