Man fatally shot by Lakewood police during traffic stop is identified

A 26-year-old Tacoma man fatally shot by Lakewood police during a traffic stop has been identified.

Officers pulled over Said Joquin’s vehicle about 4 p.m. Friday in the 6400 block of Steilacoom Boulevard.

The officer who stopped Joquin called for back-up and as more officers were arriving, the officer shot Joquin, police said.

Investigators did not say why police pulled over the car or what prompted the shooting.

Joquin was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

A passenger inside the vehicle was questioned by police. The passenger was not injured.

The involved officer was placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.

The Cooperative Cities Crime Response Unit is investigating.

His loved ones are trying to raise money to bring Joquin’s body to Fayetteville, North Carolina, for burial. A GoFundMe page has raised more than $2,300.

“Words can’t even begin to describe the type of incredible person he was and what a loss it is to no longer have him in our lives,” his family wrote on the site.
