Suspect in stolen box truck threw sawed-off shotgun out window during Tacoma pursuit

After a short pursuit in Tacoma early Wednesday, police seized a stolen box truck and sawed-off shotgun.

The chase began about 2 a.m. when an officer spotted a stolen box truck near South 84th and South Alaska streets.

“The truck took off and the driver threw a sawed-off shotgun out the window,” police spokeswoman Wendy Haddow said.

With assistance from Pierce County sheriff’s deputies, the driver was stopped at East 72nd Street and Portland Avenue East.

The 49-year-old suspect was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm, felony elude and possession of an unlawful firearm.
