Fife woman charged with trying to kill 2 young kids calls herself ‘bad mother’

A Fife woman who tried to strangle her two young children said she did it because she could not properly care for them, court records say.

Pierce County prosecutors charged 31-year-old Hina Sadia with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

She pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on $1 million bail.

Her 4-year-old daughter remains in critical condition at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.

Her 2-year-old son suffered bruising around the neck but is listed in stable condition.

Sadia was arrested Sunday at her home in the 3200 block of Festival Avenue East after calling 911.

Charging papers give this account:

Sadia told dispatchers she’d just killed her daughter and was about to kill her baby boy “because I am a bad mother,” records say.

Police rushed to the house and found the front door locked.

They could hear Sadia sobbing inside and a child screaming. Sadia opened the door after several moments and was taken into custody.

Both children were found naked and wet in an upstairs bathtub.

The girl was unconscious. Her brother sat crying at her feet.

Listen to our daily briefing:

“The defendant told detectives she could not do anything for her children, and they were not going to contribute to society, so it would be better that they die, and she decided to kill them,” prosecutors wrote in charging papers.

Sadia allegedly said she first choked her son then decided her daughter should die first. She believed the little girl was dead when she called 911 because her body went limp.
