Motorcyclist killed after crashing into truck in Tacoma

A 26-year-old motorcyclist died Tuesday after crashing into a truck in Tacoma, police said.

The crash occurred about 10:05 a.m. near Pacific Avenue South and South 27th Street.

The motorcyclist was traveling south on Pacific Avenue when he struck the truck, which was heading east on South 27th Street.

Investigators are trying to determine what happened.

The motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

He has not been identified.

The driver of the truck, a 79-year-old man, sustained minor injuries.

Authorities said the number of fatal motorcycle crashes in the state has spiked this year.

At least 24 motorcyclists have been killed in Washington so far, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

“We are concerned about the death of so many motorcyclists in 2020 with the traditional riding season still to come,” said Pam Pannkuk, the commission’s acting director.
