Man fatally shot estranged wife’s boyfriend, himself outside Lakewood hospital

A man fatally shot his estranged wife’s boyfriend and then himself outside St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood Tuesday morning, police said.

Detectives are investigating the homicide-suicide, which occurred about 7:45 a.m. in the hospital’s southern parking lot.

The suspected shooter came to St. Clare Hospital to speak with his wife, who works there.

Her boyfriend also worked at the hospital.

“He said, ‘Hey, I want to talk to your new boyfriend,’” Lt. Chris Lawler said. “As soon as they met, the estranged husband opened fire on the boyfriend.”

The victim was shot multiple times.

The estranged husband then shot himself, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman’s boyfriend was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

Neither man has been identified.

The woman was not injured.

St. Clare Hospital briefly went on lockdown until officials determined the shooting was an isolated incident, said Cary Evans, vice president of communications & government affairs for CHI Franciscan.
