Officials identify suspected burglar fatally shot in Pierce County home

A suspected burglar fatally shot by a Pierce County homeowner after breaking into a house in the Elk Plain area has been identified as a 30-year-old Tacoma man.

It was about 5:20 a.m. Sunday when a man heard rustling sounds in the home he shares with his elderly mother in the 20700 block of 46th Avenue East.

He allegedly armed himself and went to find where the noises were coming from.

The intruder was found standing next to a safe and “came at” the homeowner, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The homeowner shot the suspected burglar, who has been identified as Travis Grosso.

Grosso was pronounced dead at the scene.

A stool was found next to a broken window, leading investigators to believe that is how he entered the house.

The homeowner was not arrested.
