Lakewood police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who groped and sexually assaulted two women at a park.

The attack occurred about 7:15 p.m. June 3 on a wooded trail in Fort Steilacoom Park.

The first victim was walking near the park’s water towers when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her buttocks and crotch, police said.

The woman was able to pull out a folding knife she was carrying and her attacker ran off after allegedly telling the victim, “Come at me!”

Another woman reported seeing a man masturbating in the southwest corner of the park near the Pierce College campus about 6:45 p.m., just before the other assault.

The man is accused of slapping that woman’s butt as she ran past him.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s or 40s, 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8, with a slender build and dark hair. He was wearing sunglasses, blue jeans and a blue shirt. He was also with a medium-sized dog that looked similar to a Border Collie.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lakewood Detective Darin Sale at 253-830-5098 or Tacoma-Pierce County Crimestoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
