Tacoma woman killed when the car she was riding in struck rocks and overturned

A woman died Tuesday night after the car she was riding in struck a pile of rocks and overturned in Pierce County.

The 44-year-old victim has not been identified.

The driver, a 55-year-old Tacoma man, was traveling north in the 4200 block of Waller Road East when he lost control at a curve, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The 2000 Volkswagen Passat hit a pile of rocks and flipped over.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Deputies believe the man may have been driving under the influence.

The investigation is ongoing.
