Teen arrested in connection with fatal shooting on Tacoma’s Ruston Way

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting on Tacoma’s Ruston Way.

Police said the teen was taken into custody Saturday afternoon during a traffic stop and booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder for the July 11 death of Benito Juarez.

The teen appeared in Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Center Monday afternoon and was ordered held without bail.

Prosecutors have not yet filed charges against him. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Officers were called just before 2 a.m. July 11 to the 3900 block of Ruston Way after somebody reported hearing gunshots.

As police arrived to the area near Cummings Park, they said they saw several vehicles fleeing the scene.

Juarez, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have released information about a motive or what led up to the shooting.
