South Hill man suspected of killing mother by hitting her in head with rock

A South Hill man killed his mother Thursday morning by hitting her in the head with a large rock, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim has not been identified. The 27-year-old man was taken into custody.

Deputies were called just after 9 a.m. to the Aspen Creek Apartments, 104th Avenue Court East, by several 911 callers reporting the assault.

The man was found near the apartment complex and arrested.

Although first responders attempted CPR on his mother, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said the mother was struck with the rock after a verbal confrontation.

It was not immediately clear what they were arguing about.
