Cameron returned to the skate park Friday and was safely reunited with his dad.
Initial story:
An 11-year-old boy has been missing from his Gig Harbor-area home since Thursday morning, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
Cameron Schmidt left his house on 14th Avenue NW/Hallstrom Drive NW about 11:30 a.m. and stopped by his grandmother’s house next door for a half hour. He then took his scooter to a skate park next to the Gig Harbor Civic Center on Grandview Street.
An officer spotted Cameron about 8 p.m. walking near a Burger King restaurant on Kimball Drive, which is close to the skate park.
The boy’s family reported him missing when he did not return by 11 p.m.
Detectives are asking all residents and business employees on Grandview, Kimball, Pioneer, Stinson, Harborview, Vernhardson, Crescent Valley, Drummond, Moller and Hallstrom to check security cameras for any sign of Cameron.
That area covers the 6 1/2-mile stretch from Cameron’s house to the skate park.
Cameron is described as 5-feet-2 with a medium build, shoulder-length brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, black and white shorts and a black Fox Racing hat.
He was riding his scooter and carried a green helmet and backpack.
Anyone with information on Cameron’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
