Driver went off road, died in car fire along Sumner Buckley Highway

A driver died Monday morning after a car went off the road and caught fire, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Someone called 911 just before 8 a.m. to report a vehicle on fire in the 28600 block of Sumner-Buckley Highway.

By the time firefighters and deputies arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed.

The driver’s body was found inside after the blaze was put out.

Investigators are looking into the fire and trying to determine what caused the driver to go off the road.

There were no witnesses to the incident, sheriff’s Sgt. Darren Moss Jr. said.
