Armed man fatally shot by Pierce County sheriff’s deputy in Graham is identified
A Graham man shot and killed by a Pierce County sheriff’s deputy after firing several rounds toward deputies waiting outside the house has been identified.
Donald Anderson, 39, prompted multiple 911 calls just after 9 p.m. Sunday.
Concerned neighbors in the 24900 block of 144th Avenue East reported him randomly firing guns in the neighborhood. One caller said Anderson held a knife to someone’s throat.
Deputies were informed Anderson had several guns, but could not find him when they arrived on scene.
They could, however, heard occasional gunfire.
About 10:30 p.m., deputies located a house with Anderson inside and safely brought three people out.
It was another hour before Anderson walked out of the house and began shooting, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
A deputy fired a single shot, which struck Anderson.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputy has not yet been identified. He was placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.
The Thurston County Critical Incident Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
