Two killed after speeding driver hits cars parked in Tacoma driveway

Two men died late Thursday after a speeding driver struck two parked cars in a Tacoma driveway, police said.

The collision occurred about 11:40 p.m. in the 8800 block of South Park Avenue.

A driver first rear-ended a vehicle near South 80th and South Hosmer streets and sped off, eventually hitting a traffic circle while traveling southbound on South Park Avenue, police spokeswoman Wendy Haddow said.

The impact sent his car careening into a driveway, where it struck two parked cars. One of those vehicles was occupied by a driver.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger in the erratically driven vehicle was taken to an area hospital with injuries.

South Park Avenue between South 84th and South 90th streets was closed for at least seven hours during the investigation.
