Pedestrian killed by hit-and-run driver after birthday party near Orting is identified

A pedestrian killed by a hit-and-run driver after leaving a birthday party near Orting has been identified.

Jonathan Mark Rupert, 34 of Puyallup, attended a birthday party Saturday night and left on foot shortly after 10 p.m.

About a half hour later, a driver spotted a man’s body lying in the 28200 block of Orville Road East and called 911.

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies found Rupert in the road with obvious signs he’d been struck by a vehicle.

The driver did not remain at the scene and no witnesses have been found.

Rupert was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have asked residents along the south end of Orville Road from Kapowsin to 264th Street East to check their home security systems for any images of the victim or suspicious vehicles from 10 p.m. to 10:40 p.m. Saturday.
