Lake Tapps woman found shot to death in car; her boyfriend was arrested

Investigators are looking into the shooting death of a 39-year-old Lake Tapps woman.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Jeannifer Chhang but has not yet determined whether her death was a homicide.

Her boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to file charges.

It was just before 11 p.m. Sunday when Pierce County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 18200 block of 17th Street East.

They found Chhang inside a vehicle parked in the driveway suffering from a gunshot wound.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her live-in boyfriend appeared to be “despondent” and was standing next to the vehicle holding a gun, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Detectives are looking into what led up to the shooting.

Loved ones said Chhang dedicated to her family.

“Always there to cheer on her babies at soccer games. Always there to hold her nieces and nephews so parents can get a bite in. Always the one to put her brothers needs before hers. The best sister and friend anyone could ask for,” according to a GoFundMe that is raising money for her funeral costs.
