Armed robbery at South Hill store ends with police chase, 3 arrested

Editor’s note: This story initially reported the robbery occurred at a jewelry store.

Pierce County deputies arrested three people Wednesday who they suspect were involved in an armed robbery at a South Hill grocery store.

Deputies from Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said the suspects were arrested after they jumped from their moving getaway vehicle at an intersection in Parkland while trying to run away.

Deputies arrested a 28-year-old woman and two men, ages 30 and 25, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. They were booked into jail for investigation of robbery.

A 911 caller reported to deputies at about 11 a.m. that a man armed with a knife had just robbed a store in the 17400 block of Meridian Avenue East, according to the post. It’s unclear what was taken in the robbery.

While deputies responded, they learned the man fled with several other people in a white utility truck. Deputies said a records check showed the truck was stolen.

Deputies caught up with the truck and attempted to stop it, but the driver kept going. Deputies said they continued to pursue the vehicle because they had probable cause to arrest the suspects for first-degree robbery.

At the intersection of Steele Street South and 102nd Street South in Parkland, three people jumped out of the truck while it was still moving. Photos from the scene showed the truck stopped off the side of the road down a small embankment. Deputies pursued on foot and arrested the woman and two men.
