Police investigating armed robbery at jewelry store in Tacoma’s Proctor district

Police are investigating after three men robbed a jewelry store Tuesday in Tacoma’s Proctor District. One of the men was armed with a gun and fired it at the floor before the group fled the store with items.

No one was injured during the robbery.

The men entered the jewelry store Tuesday afternoon in the 3800 block of North 26th Street. Tacoma Police department spokesperson Wendy Haddow said the men entered wearing face masks and ordered two women, ages 71 and 67, to retrieve jewelry for them.

Around 5 p.m., a nearby TPD officer heard a bang, then turned a corner and saw two men run by him going east. The officer continued toward the jewelry store and saw a man run out of it carrying items.

Haddow said the officer did not yet have probable cause to pursue the men he saw running by him.

The officer confirmed the jewelry store had been robbed and was told one gunshot had been fired into the floor. Victims told police two of the men stood by the door while one directed them to retrieve jewelry.

It’s unclear how much was taken from the store.

Haddow said police canvassed the area but did not find the suspects.
