Person found dead in burned-out car at apartments near Lakewood

A person was found dead early Thursday morning in the driver’s seat of a burned-out car at an apartment complex near Lakewood.

Crews from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue responded about 4:15 a.m. to a car fire reported in the 10400 block of Sales Road South. Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said when fire crews arrived, the car was still on fire. Crews extinguished the blazed and found a person dead inside.

The vehicle was in a parking lot and was not involved in a crash, according to a tweet from the sheriff’s department. Moss said the fire also melted some plastic on a nearby car.

The driver has not yet been identified.

Deputies said an arson investigator is on the scene looking into the cause of the fire.
