A man wanted for investigation of a murder in Pierce County was arrested Sunday in southwestern Washington state.

Deputies from Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office arrested the 48-year-old man in Castle Rock while investigating a residential burglary. A warrant had been issued for his arrest for investigation of a murder from July 24 in Pierce County, deputies from Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said.

It’s unclear what murder the man was wanted in connection to. Pierce County sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said the victim has not been identified by the medical examiner.

Cowlitz County deputies responded to a Castle Rock residence Sunday morning in the 700 block of Agren Road for reports of a burglary in progress, according to a post on its Facebook page.

The day before, a person reported that the homeowner had recently died and several items were missing from the home. When deputies responded to the in-progress burglary Sunday, they tracked suspects to a residence in the 500 block of Agren Road.

There, deputies found a 48-year-old man in possession of items suspected to be stolen from the Agren Road residence in the 700 block. Deputies took him into custody and later learned he also had a warrant for first-degree murder in Pierce County.

Sgt. Moss of Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said the man was not connected to the deaths of two other people killed July 24 in Pierce County — 36-year-old Heather Tucker and 32-year-old Bud Morgan. Two other men have been charged in their deaths.
