Deputies said the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, led by U.S. Marshals, was conducting a fugitive investigation when a man fled from them. Deputies said he rammed a task force vehicle and fired shots as he ran.

The fugitive is described as a man in his 40s, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds. Deputies said he was wearing camo when he fled. The sheriff’s department’s SWAT team and Air Operations Unit was assisting in the search.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said state Route 7 was closed from Alder Lake Park to 91st Avenue East near La Grande. Deputies have not said what the fugitive is wanted for.

Deputies advised people to call 911 if they spot a suspicious person on their property. The department shared a map of what part of State route 7 was closed while they search.
