Medical examiner identifies man found shot to death in truck in Tacoma’s Stadium District

A man found fatally shot in a truck on New Year’s Eve in Tacoma’s Stadium District was identified Thursday by the Pierce County medical examiner.

Jordan Michael Patterson, 31, died of a gunshot wound to the head near the 300 block of North D Street, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a news release. The office did not list a place of residence for Patterson.

The man’s death was the 31st homicide in Tacoma in 2021. The number of murders in the city last year was one less than 2020’s total, although medical examiner’s have not determined a cause of death for one person found dead near an Eastside homeless encampment.

Tacoma Police Department officers were called about 9:15 a.m. Dec. 31 to North D Street and North Stadium Way after an officer spotted a black 2016 Ford F150 that was parked diagonally and had been reported stolen Dec. 19.

The back window of the truck was shattered, and when officers looked in the vehicle, they found Patterson dead inside, police department spokesperson Wendy Haddow said.
