Man whose body was found wrapped in tarp near Tacoma encampment died of gunshots

A man whose body was found wrapped in a tarp near a Tacoma homeless encampment has been identified.

Jeremy Tomlinson, 30, died of gunshot wounds to the face and thigh, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The body was discovered about 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 6 in the 200 block of East 23rd Street.

Police initially said it was a death investigation but have changed it to a homicide investigation.

Tomlinson is the first homicide victim in the city this year.

No details have been released about his death, and nobody is in custody.
