Tacoma police investigating after finding man with gunshot wound in downtown hotel

Tacoma police are investigating after a man was found Monday afternoon with a life-threatening gunshot wound in a hotel room downtown.

Tacoma Police Department said South Sound 911 received a call just before 1 p.m. reporting that someone had been shot, but no address was provided. Department spokesperson Wendy Haddow said dispatchers were able to locate the general area where the call was made by tracking the caller’s phone.

Officers canvassing the area were directed by dispatchers to the Hotel Murano in the 1300 block of Broadway. Haddow said dispatchers called the phone again, and a voicemail greeting included a name for a person checked in at the hotel.

In the person’s room, police found a 29-year-old man with a single gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Tuesday, the man was still alive but police did not have an update on his condition.

It’s unclear what led up to the shooting. Haddow said investigators had not yet been able to speak with the victim about what happened.
