Woman struck by gunfire in Parkland apartment while she slept, deputies say
A 63-year-old woman was shot and seriously injured early Tuesday morning while she slept in bed at her Parkland apartment. Pierce County deputies responded to the shooting and are investigating.
Pierce County Sheriff’s Department deputies said gunfire from outside the apartment struck the woman. Deputies were called about 3:56 a.m. to the apartment complex in the 2400 block of 96th Street South.
There, the injured woman was located and transported to a hospital. Her injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
The bullets went through a window and a wall before hitting the woman, sheriff’s department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said. He said there were at least three bullet holes in the window, but he didn’t know how many total shots were fired.
Moss said the gunfire came from the parking lot, but deputies don’t have any witnesses to the shooting. No one else was in her apartment.
“We don’t know if somebody targeted that specific apartment, but we don’t believe that she was targeted herself,” Moss said.
Deputies aren’t sure if they’re searching for one shooter or more.
