13 displaced by fire at Tacoma apartment building

Thirteen people were displaced Monday morning after an apartment complex caught fire in Tacoma.

It was about 10:40 a.m. when somebody called 911 to report a blaze at a four-plex in the 3300 block of McKinley Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the second story.

The fire was under control within an hour, according to the Fire Department.

Two people were evaluated on scene for injuries. One was taken to an area hospital for further treatment.

The American Red Cross is assisting 13 people who were displaced by the fire.

“There was significant damage to the building” and three of the four apartments were heavily damaged, Tacoma fire spokesman Joe Meinecke said.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
