State troopers seeking tips to help find driver who shot at vehicle on I-5 in Tacoma

A driver got out of his car on a southbound Interstate 5 interchange ramp Wednesday afternoon in Tacoma and opened fire on a pickup stopped in front of him. The Washington State Patrol is seeking help from the public to identify the shooter.

Troopers said the pickup driver was going south about 3:15 p.m. near the interchange ramp to South 84th Street when they stopped in front of four-door Mercedes passenger car. According to a news release, the Mercedes might have been blue.

The Mercedes’ driver got out of the car and fired two to three gunshots at the pickup, striking it once in the rear window. The truck’s driver was not injured. Troopers said the shooter got back in his car and drove away toward South 84th Street.

The shooter was described as an approximately 25-year-old man with long, curly hair. Witnesses couldn’t say what the Mercedes’ exact color was, but troopers said the license plate contained the letters BZW.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or shooter was asked to contact detective Sgt. Clint Thomas at 253-753-8226.
