Person found dead in car on Day Island near University Place. Homicide probe underway

A person was found dead in a vehicle on Day Island near University Place on Monday, and Pierce County sheriff’s detectives have launched a homicide investigation.

In a video posted to Twitter, sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said West Pierce Fire & Rescue personnel were dispatched about 3:53 p.m. to a report of an unresponsive person in a vehicle in the 1800 block of Day Island Boulevard.

They discovered the person dead and reported that it appeared to be a homicide, Moss said.

Detectives and forensics experts were sent to the scene to begin collecting evidence and talking to potential witnesses, Moss said.

No other information was immediately available.
