Pierce County deputies seek help identifying gunman in attempted murder at Spanaway bar

Pierce County deputies are seeking help from the public to identify the person who shot a 38-year-old man multiple times last month outside a sports bar in Spanaway. Deputies are investigating the shooting as an attempted murder.

The victim was shot in the early hours of March 6 outside of the Y Sports Bar & Grill at 19306 Mountain Highway E., according to a Crime Stoppers bulletin the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department shared Tuesday. Deputies were called there about 1:20 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

Witnesses told arriving deputies that the victim had left in a car. The wounded man and his vehicle were located a few blocks to the north. He was transported to the hospital with “numerous” gunshot wounds, according to the bulletin.

The man survived his injuries, and Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said he has since been released from the hospital.

There are few identifying details about the shooter. He was described as a man with an average build who was wearing black clothing, including a balaclava-style face covering, according to the bulletin. He might be driving a red Chevy Cobalt or Malibu, and he might live in Federal Way or the Seattle area.

The shooting occurred while a concert was going on at the bar, and Moss said there were a lot of witnesses. According to the bulletin, witnesses told detectives the gunman was part of the event’s security team, but they did not provide his name.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to submit a tip online or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. Tipsters who provide information that leads to an arrest and charges filed can receive up to $1,000.

Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting early Sunday, March 5, in the Spanaway area.
