Bomb squad called to Tacoma business after ‘beeping’ backpack with wires found outside

Tacoma Police Department’s bomb squad was called to a business Wednesday morning along South Tacoma Way after a suspicious backpack was found outside.

Police’s Explosive Ordnance Detail responded about 5:30 a.m. to a business in the 3700 block of South Tacoma Way. The business reported that a backpack was beeping outside, and that it had wires and an antenna sticking out of it.

The bomb squad determined the backpack and its contents were not an explosive, according to a tweet from TPD. Police said the device was made safe. It’s not clear what was actually in the backpack or why it was placed outside the business.

Further information was not immediately available.
